In Garland, Texas about seven o'clock in the afternoon, the clerk of a convenience store was arranging his merchandise on the shelves and making sure that nothing is out of place. No customers were present in the store at this time and the environment was tranquil. Suddenly a hooded man came in the store. He stood by the checkout counter and called the cashier for assistance. The cashier finally came. When he looked at the suspect he noticed that most of his face was covered by the hood and he appeared to have both of his hands inside his jacket. The suspect quickly threatened him and told him that he had some sort of weapon with him that he will not hesitate to use if the clerk does not give him all his money. At first the clerk did not believe this claim and was not intending on cooperating. However, he saw that the thief still had his hands in his jacket and did not want to take the risk of getting shot or injured in any way. He also feared that a customer might come in and be used as a hostage by the suspect. The clerk eventually complied and opened up the register. The suspect then took out one of his hands and started taking the money from the cash register. He then took out his other arm and adjusted his jacket. At that moment the clerk realized that both of the suspect’s arms were empty and that he has no weapon whatsoever. The thief started to head for the door, but with a push of a button, the clerk locked the main entrance to prevent this weaponless culprit from making an easy escape. After a few attempts to open the door, the suspect finally realized that the clerk locked him inside the store. He then begins to cuss and threaten the clerk. However, the clerk was not in any way intimidated by the armless suspect, he simply picked up the phone and dialed the nearest police station to come and arrest him. Out of desperation, the culprit returned back the money that he stole as an exchange for his freedom, an unsuccessful attempt. The clerk grabs the money and puts it under the counter as he continues the phone conversation. As the clerk continues to give the details to the police on the phone the thief tries to escape the store by ramming the door with his body several times, he is still unsuccessful. The thief finally picks up a small gas tank that was placed by the door. He smashes the door with it two times before the glass shatters into pieces. Realizing that he can now escape, he rushes back to the checkout counter and demands the money back. He even climbs over the counter to try to snatch it from its hidden location. The clerk quickly bends over and grabs a big hammer and starts to swing at the robber. He finally decides to make a run and jumps out the door. Although he succeeds in escaping the crook took off his hood revealing his face during his frustration with the clerk, the security cameras caught his identity and he was arrested soon after. |
