A terrifying and disturbing incident happened at a Shell gas station in North of Belmont avenue. A single clerk was taking care of the store in this quite night when all of a sudden a suspicious customer walks in the store. He had an untidy appearance and a frightened look on his face. He approached the cashier sitting at the checkout counter and proceeded to ask him for directions to get to a restaurant. As the clerk began to explain how to get to the location he was interrupted by the suspicious customer. The customer showed the clerk a small machete knife and demanded the clerk to give him all his money. The clerk was stunned and reached for the phone on the counter to call the cops. The crook realized that the cashier is going to resist him. So he snatched the phone out of his clerk's hand then he came in around the corner, toppled the clerk, and tackled him to the ground. The crook tried to put the knife to the clerk's throat and hold him as a hostage to get him to comply with his demands but he is prevented by the clerk's aggressive struggle from doing so. The two continue to fight on the ground for minutes with products falling all around them from the shelves above. Minutes later a customer comes in the store and sees the fight. He immediately leaves the store but it was too late. The suspect had already seen him come in and was afraid that he would go outside the store and call for help. The suspect instantly follows him, in an attempt to harm him or prevent him from escaping the store at all. However, the witness does not leave the property instead he exits the door of the store and turns around and holds the door shut as an attempt to restrain the suspect inside the store. The bruised clerk sees his chance and pushes the security alarm button alerting the nearby police station to the dangerous situation taking place. The clerk also manages to grab a nearby crowbar. He then quietly comes up from behind the suspect and starts hitting him repeatedly. As soon as this happens the witness standing outside the store’s entrance as well as another pedestrian who happened to pass by the store at that time entered the store and they all began fighting with the suspect to deplete his energy and prevent him from fleeing the store before the police officers arrive. The suspect was eventually able to flee the store and escape the from crowbar swinging clerk. However the outdoor security cameras clearly show that he did not get too far until the same two pedestrians were able to tackle him again within few feet from the store. The two men continued to hit the robber until he ran out of energy. He eventually surrendered, they quickly dragged him back to the store assisted by a few other passing pedestrians and was held there until the police officers arrived and arrested him. |
